Welcome to Bygone Bristol
Janet and Derek Fisher began collecting old postcards twenty five years ago, it started with a collection of Weston Super Mare, and within weeks the collection of Bristol postcards began to take shape. Derek already had about 8,000 slides taken from old postcards, which formed the basis for talks on old Bristol.
As the Bristol collection grew it was decided to produce a book showing the many changes to the city, so the first book to be produced was Bristol Then and Now, then the ideal was born to produce books on each of the districts of Bristol, there being very many books on the city as a whole, but none ever done on the separate districts printed purely from old postcards.
This proved to be a great success, and now there are nineteen books available in the series, the most recent book, on the district of Filton, Patchway, and Stoke Gifford, was published in September 2002.
There are now over 20,000 negatives in the collection of Bristol and its suburbs, which can all be supplied as photographs.
The postcard business specialises on Bristol and districts, and on Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Devon, Cornwall, South Wales, and in the rest of the UK.
